Last night I was watching The Lion King, because, why not? It’s the best movie ever (fact), and clearly stands the test of time. You just can’t beat it!
Well, as if I didn’t already think highly enough of this animated cinematic masterpiece, the Lord totally spoke to me through The Lion King last night.
You know that scene where Mufasa speaks to Simba from the clouds in the starry night sky? If you don’t, do not fret! I have it conveniently right below for you to watch! ENJOY:
TALK ABOUT WISDOM!!!!! Thanks, Mufasa! Let’s just unpack some of the DEEP knowledge he drops, and talk about how it relates to our lives as followers of Christ.
“You have forgotten who you are, and so forgotten me.”
Losing touch with the reality of who you are as a child of God can quickly lead you to losing touch with the reality of who God is and the impact He has on your life. Just look at Simba! He lost touch with the truth of his identity as heir to the throne of Pride Rock, and so failed to honor his father’s character, legacy, and kingdom. When we abandon or forget our identity in Christ, we are failing to recognize the reality of God’s faithfulness, His unchanging character, and the weight this holds for His Kingdom.
Just like with Simba, we often experience difficulties, tragedies, wounds, circumstances, etc. that lead us to believe lies about who we are. But God’s character never changes, and our identity as His sons and daughters doesn’t either! By remembering this, you remember and honor the Lord.
“Look inside yourself, Simba. You are more than what you have become. You must take your place in the Circle of Life.”
The more deeply you know yourself, the more deeply you know God. The more deeply you know God, the more deeply you know yourself.
It’s so easy for us to forget about or diminish the power that resides in us. The very Spirit of God lives inside us, y’all, and there is so much untapped potential in that!!!!! By not recognizing and exercising both the gifts the Lord placed inside you when He created you and the power of the Holy Spirit moving through you, you are not fully living out the role God desires for you to play in His Kingdom.
By looking inside yourself, acknowledging your strengths, gifts, & skills, and understanding the power and authority you have as a follower of Christ – and walking in these giftings – you are taking your place in the Circle of Life that is the Kingdom of Heaven!
“Remember who you are. You are My son.”
We are sons and daughters of the living King!!! Remember that, and watch your life transform!
When we live in the reality that our primary identity is a child of God, recognize what Christ did to make this life possible, and remember what God has already done for us…walls come down, fears flee, and Kingdom comes.
No more questioning your inheritance. No more living in fear. No more missing out on your God-given potential. You are a child of the God of the universe. Live like it.
